We live in incredible times. We can connect to anyone across the world, have conversations and transfer information, and all that’s required is a little bit of technology and an internet connection. These days, anywhere with cellphone service, or in some cases, even satellite service, can be connected to the rest of the world through technology. And, if you’re so inclined, you can take advantage of this fact in order to see the world, and fund your trips while you’re on them using that amazing internet connection to find work on-the-go. As long as you have a laptop and an internet connection, you can work from pretty much anywhere, from a café on the Champs-Elysees in Paris to a wooden shack in Tibet.

Depending on your skills, setting up a freelance career can actually be no only quite lucrative, but also provide you with the opportunity to work on your own terms, at your own pace, and also take time off of work to enjoy all of the places you travel to. If you don’t have direct contact with people who need your services, there are many online communities where you can find work as a freelancer, from Upwork and Freelancer.com, to Fiverr. All of these sites work on the same premise: Employer posts a job opening with a description, and if you think you can do it, you tell them the rate you’ll do the work for, then get hired, do the work, and get paid!

It’s quite a simple system, and if you’re willing to spend some time working hard, you can guarantee you’ll have plenty of time and money left over to spend travelling whenever you like, on your own terms. You can take on freelancing work from anywhere, and as long as your technology doesn’t break (which is a real risk with travelling), you can travel the world at your leisure, funded by the work you do online!

So, if you think you have a skill people need that can be done online, like writing, programming, design, or anything else, and you want to travel the world: do it! Your laptop is your workplace now, and you can enjoy the world without having to worry about how much money you budgeted for the trip, because you’ll always be making more! You have an amazing opportunity at your fingertips, and if you’re capable enough, there’s nothing stopping you!
